Is “zero-interest” EMI really free?
  • Processing fees can add Rs. 500–3,000 even on 0% plans. Always ask.
  • Some sellers inflate the “cash price” before calling it zero-interest. Compare the EMI price to the actual cash price at authorised stores.
  • Your credit card company or bank may charge an annual fee not shown in the EMI breakdown.
  • Late-payment penalties can be significant — ask for the penalty rate before signing.
  • This calculator assumes the rate you enter. If the seller says “zero percent,” enter 0% and add any processing fee separately.

How this calculation works

EMI formula (standard reducing-balance method)
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1)
P = Loan amount (product price minus down payment)
r = Monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
n = Number of months (tenure)

If the interest rate is 0%, this simplifies to EMI = Loan amount ÷ Tenure. The processing fee is added separately to the total payable amount and is not spread across monthly instalments in this estimate.

Before you buy on EMI in Nepal

6-point check · takes 5 minutes Nepal-specific
1
Confirm the exact product price and variant
Some sellers quote EMI on one variant but hand you another at a higher EMI. Confirm the variant, price and EMI amount in writing before paying the down payment.
2
Ask for the total payable amount, not just the monthly EMI
A low monthly EMI is easy to say yes to. The total payable tells you the real cost. Use this calculator to see how much extra you pay — then decide if it is worth it.
3
Ask specifically about the processing fee
Processing fees are often not mentioned until you are about to sign. Ask: “Is there any processing, documentation or service charge on this EMI?” Add it above to see your true total.
4
Confirm warranty type and VAT bill
Always ask for official Nepal warranty and a proper VAT bill. Without a VAT bill, warranty claims are difficult regardless of how you paid. EMI does not change warranty — the seller type does.
5
Ask about late-payment and prepayment rules
Late-payment charges can be steep — sometimes 2–5% per month on the overdue amount. Also ask whether you can pay off early without penalty; some plans do not allow it.
6
Check the EMI price against the cash price elsewhere
Some EMI sellers mark up the price to cover financing. Check the official price on our price hub first — if the EMI price is higher, the difference is effectively interest.
