Editor’s review
- Always-On Display is a first for SE — and it matters: Previous SE models required a wrist raise to see the time. The SE 3rd gen brings the Always-On Display that was previously exclusive to the Series lineup. For checking the time at a glance in meetings, on a trek, or at a bus stop without waving your wrist, this is a quality-of-life upgrade that directly affects daily use.
- 15-minute fast charge for load-shedding: SE 3rd gen's fast charge delivers approximately 8 hours of use from a 15-minute charge. During a short power window before a scheduled outage, you can meaningfully extend the watch's battery without waiting for a full charge. This is the most load-shedding-friendly charging spec on any Apple Watch entry model.
- No ECG or SpO2 — understand the trade-off: The SE line intentionally omits ECG (electrocardiogram) and SpO2 (blood oxygen) to hit a lower price point. You still get heart rate monitoring, crash detection, and skin temperature — useful for fitness and safety. If ECG is important to you (arrhythmia detection, etc.), step up to Series 8 or above.
- Crash detection on Nepal's roads: Like Series 8 and newer, SE 3rd gen includes crash detection. The feature uses the accelerometer and gyroscope to identify car crash signatures and auto-calls emergency services if you're unresponsive. On Nepal's mountain roads and city traffic, this has real-world value.
- Best entry for family gifting: At its price–45,000, SE 3rd gen is the most common choice for gifting Apple Watch to parents, younger family members, or anyone who wants iPhone integration without the full Series price. The S10 chip ensures watchOS performance won't feel sluggish for several years.
LTE/Cellular does not work in Nepal. The cellular (LTE) Apple Watch cannot activate on Nepal Telecom (NTC) or Ncell — neither carrier supports Apple Watch eSIM. Buy the GPS model unless you only need cellular abroad; on the LTE model the cellular features will not function in Nepal.

Frequently asked questions
Yes u2014 built-in GPS, 50m water resistance, and the Always-On Display make it a capable companion for day hikes and standard teahouse treks. For multi-day high-altitude routes or off-trail wilderness trekking, the limited battery (18h) and lack of dual-band GPS are constraints u2014 consider Apple Watch Ultra 2 or a Garmin for serious mountain use.
Yes u2014 watchOS Family Setup allows an SE (cellular model) to be linked to a family member's iPhone, so a child or older parent without their own iPhone can use the watch for calls, messages, and health monitoring. This requires the cellular LTE variant and a local SIM-compatible setup. Confirm local carrier LTE band compatibility before purchasing the cellular model.
